Tourists can now visit the Taj Mahal for free in the coming days. As per the reports, starting February 27, 2022, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has decided to allow free entry to the monument for all tourists.
February 27, 28th, and March 01 are the days that tourists can enter the graves of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz for free. This time marks the occasion of the 367th Urs of the Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan, which will be held here for three days.
Apart from the three days, tourists can also enter the monument for free on World Tourism Day.
Dr. Rajkumar Patel, ASI Superintending Archaeologist, informed that on February 27th and 28th, visitors would be allowed free entry from 14:00hrs to sunset. On March 01, tourists can enter for free from Sunrise to Sunset.
Reports have suggested that the security arrangements have also been strengthened due to the Urs, where it is expected to hold more tourist footfalls. Officials have also mentioned that the covid 19 protocol should be followed by the tourists entering the Taj Mahal.
A tourist guide has also said that this is the only time in the year when visitors are allowed to enter the basement to see the original graves of Shah Jahan and his wife, Mumtaj.
