For many years, I have been following the OnePlus series of phone and like every year I was excited when OnePlus announced their new entry to the market, OnePlus 8. Although due to the ongoing pandemic, there was no official launch event which made me sad as I had attended most of the previous events, this time it was unique and as expected OnePlus on 14-04-2020 made an official announcement of its release of Oneplus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro and they gave us a sleek peak of the new OnePlus 8 online.
Both the phones will be available on Online Market from April 29 onwards where OnePlus 8 starts at $699 and the 8 Pro versions from $899. The company says the OnePlus 8 is a premium and 8 Pro is Ultra-Premium segment of the phone.
Both the phones have a similar design where the OnePlus 8 has 6.55inches FHD+ resolution with 1080x2400pixels and OnePlus 8 Pro has 6.78Inchs FHD+ resolution with 3168 x 1440 pixels in resolution, the difference that this makes is the screen space and the refresh rate of the screen. Both The 8Pro version has shorter refresh rate which makes it easy for users to scroll through the screen with ease and it will be smooth.
The OnePlus 8 has 90Hz Fluid Display and the 8 pro versions has 120Hz Fluid Display which gives a sense of brightness and it clearly displays the images with crisp quality and colour contrast. The OnePlus 8 features over 16M colours and the pro version feature over 1B Colours.
The dimension of OnePlus 8 is around 160.2 x 72.9 x 8 mm and the 8Pro version is around 165.3 x 74.4 x 8.5 mm. Oneplus 8 pro is slightly heavier than the 8 version where it is around 199g and the 8 version is 180g. Both the phones are supported by Gorilla Glass 3D and are IP68 dust and waterproof. Both the phones come with no option for external memory card and they have an internal memory of 128GB with 8GB RAM and 256GB with 12GB RAM. The phones run on Android 10 and the OS Supported is Oxygen OS 10.0. OnePlus 8, in general has Qualcomm SM8250 Snapdragon 865 chipset and Octa-core CPU and Adreno 650 GPU. The phones come with X55-5G Chipset allowing the phone to access 5G internet service.
The battery of OnePlus 8 is Non-removable Li-Po 4300mAh and OnePlus 8 pro has non-removable Li-Po 4510mAh with Warp Charging. The phones come with Dual-band wi-fi 802.11 and Bluetooth 5.1. The phone features Stereo loudspeakers with no access to the headphone jack. Additional specifications include NFC, USB 3.1 Type C charger with data transfer access. Both Phones have dual nano sim capable of supporting 2G, 3G, 4G & 5G networks. Both phones have sensors that include fingerprint, accelerometer, electronic compass, gyroscope, light sensor, proximity sensor, laser sensor etc.
The Camera features of OnePlus 8 include triple camera with the main camera has Sony IMX586 sensor, the camera supports 48MegaPixels with Pixel Size of 0.8µm. The aperture of the main camera includes f/1.75. The Ultra Wide Angle Lens in rear camera supports 16 Megapixels with a field view of 116degrees and aperture of f/2.2. The macro lens situated in the rear side of the phone supports 2 MP with an aperture of f/2.4 and pixel size of 1.75µm. The selfie camera includes Sony IMX471 sensor with 16MP camera and having a pixel size of 1.0 µm, the camera comes with an aperture of f/2.45 with Fixed Autofocus.
OnePlus 8 Pro features Quad Real Camera and a selfie camera where the rear main camera has Sony IMX689 Sensor with 48MP and 7P lens quality. The pixel size includes 1.12 µm and an aperture of f/1.78. The Ultra-wide lens of Rear camera includes 48MP with f/2.20 aperture and 120degree of field view. The telephoto lens includes 8MP with f/2.44 aperture and Pixel size of 1.0µm. In addition, there is a colour filter lens which has 5MP and f/2.4 aperture. The front camera in OnePlus 8 Pro has Sony IMX 471 Sensor with 16MP camera and aperture of f/2.45, pixel size of 1.0 µm. OnePlus 8Pro features 3x optical zoom which is not present in 8 versions. Both the phone has video recording option of 4K, 1080p with 30/60fps. Additional features include CINE aspect ratio video recording, Video HDR, Time-lapse, Super slow motion video, Cat&Dog face detect & focus, UltraShot HDR, Nightscape, Super Micro, Portrait, Pro Mode, Panorama, AI Scene Detection, RAW Image, Audio Zoom, Audio 3D, Face Unlock, HDR, Screen Flash and Face Retouching. Where Audio Zoom, Audio 3D function is limited to the Pro version.
One Plus 8 comes with 3 colours which include Glacial Green, Interstellar Glow and Onyx Black while OnePlus 8 pro comes with Onyx Black, Glacial Green and Ultramarine Blue colours. As mentioned before they will be available for purchase on April 29th
