Being an avid fan of OnePlus series of smartphones for the past couple of years, one thing that really caught me in the news was the new filter that the 5MP filter camera has a filter that was able to see through the objects.
The filter is able to expose some of the items inside plastic, thin clothing and because of this, the filter has prompted a backlash from many users. The filter is called the photochrom and traditionally it is the process of producing colourized images from negatives which the company took the inspiration from.
One Plus about this filter, they said “Inspired by the unique colour tones used by professional photographers, OnePlus innovatively uses a filter lens on the fourth camera, which processes light differently to generate a surreal image with a unique colour tone. The customized filter transforms the light passing through to an unusual and unique spectrum for the sensor to collect. And the data collected is then processed to generate images that appear rather surreal”.
But after users discovered about this, they started to comment on this filter and it faced a severe backlash. And social media sites went berserk. The camera is one of the 4 camera’s that is situated at the bottom of 48MP Main Camera. This is a special camera that uses filter based on some of the photographic ideas.
Update: OnePlus is working on disabling the feature in coming week and expect the filter to be going off the shelf. And until the new update is released, OnePlus Camera Filter option will be temporarily disabled.
Regarding this OnePlus said, “While we think this camera gives users the ability to get more creative with smartphone photography, we also understand the concerns that have been raised, Therefore, we are already working on an OTA that we’ll push out in the coming weeks to offer the Photochrom filter while limiting other functionality that may be of concern.”
