Starting in August, travellers would be thrilled as they can experience cruises at the Hirakud reservoir in Odisha. Located near the Debrigarh wildlife sanctuary, the tourists can experience the best of both worlds here where Debrigarh offers stunning wildlife photo opportunities and Hirakud offers a cruise experience. Once started, this could be a major tourism hub for the local community here.
According to forest officials, the Hirakud cruise will come in packages where this will include bird watching and wildlife sightseeing. Animals from the Debrigarh wildlife sanctuary usually come to the reservoir to drink water and it is a great opportunity to see animals in their wild habitat.
Speaking about this, Anshu Pragyan Das who is the Divisional Forest Officer at Hirakud Division said that every batch would have 8 tourists and they would get 1 hour of their time to cruise the reservoir. He also mentioned that the locals are being trained as they maintain local eco-tourism spots and they are the ones who maintain the forest and conserve it.
