Being a place in history for over centuries, one thing that we need to visit is to notice how civilizations flourished at this Middle Eastern place, how the city of Egypt was hotpot of all trade centres etc. One way you can find is via visiting Museums and Egypt being a place for history has a lot of museums which when you visit can explore and learn about the history, culture, trade practices etc that has been followed in Egypt for various centuries.
- Egyptian Antiquity Museum, CairoThe Egyptian Antiquity Museum in Cairo takes the crown of the must-visit museums in Egypt. It has over 1 lakh 20 thousand antique pieces which are over 2 hundred years and old and exploring this complete can take a day of your schedule. The museum opened is 1902 and is located in Cairo overlooking Cairo’s Tahrir Square. They have a collection of various old coins, metal artefacts, gamut, papyrus scrolls, jewellery, children toys which were used long ago and royal mummies. Guided tours are available starting 2.5$ and the museum is open from 09:00 – 21:00hrs on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and from 09:00 – 17:00hrs on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
- National Museum of Alexandria, AlexandriaA beautiful museum in Alexandria, Egypt. It is the place where you find unique architecture and historically important artefacts. The museum was inaugurated in the year 2003 which is a renovated building which was previously used by United States Consulate. The artefacts present here include from the Coptic Era, The Islamic era and to the present day Egypt which tells us the brief history of Egypt. Some artefacts are even showcased here that were found underwater.
- Luxor Museum Opened in the year 1975, Luxor Museum is located along the river Nile beside the temple of Luxor. This is the museum which has many precious materials such as the statue of Amenhotep III with the crocodile god Sobek, and the mummies of pharaohs Ramses I and Ahmose I etc. This museum is slightly different from other museums as they have arts and artefacts from Luxor temple and some of the archaeological finds near to Luxor temple.
- The Coptic Museum, CairoThe capital of Egypt is nothing short of Museums and other places of attractions. The Coptic Museum in Cairo is where you find the artefacts of the bygone era. With over thousands of artefacts, The Coptic Museum has a varied showcase of fresco paintings, holy relics from various cultures like Egyptian, Ottoman, Roman, Greek etc. You can also notice various books, textiles, statues, manuscripts, religious items, stonework, metalwork, and woodwork of ancient Egypt here at The Coptic Museum.
- Grand Egyptian Museum
Also known as GEM, it is said to be one of the largest archaeological museums in Egypt. It is said to be open by the end of the year 2020 which will exhibit full Tutankhamun collection. And most of the displays here are going to be displayed for the very first time. The museum is situated on 120 acres of land around 2kms from the Giza Pyramids. The museum is said to have many collections however, the main USP is they would have a complete collection from King Tutankhamun. Other objects are said to have been relocated from museums of Luxor, Minya, Sohag etc.
