One of the most popular tourist destinations in Himachal Pradesh is Lahaul-Spiti which sees thousands of tourists flocking this picturesque place.
However, if you had planned your trip here this year-end then you might have to postpone as according to the reports, tourists have been barred entry to the region till April 2021 as there has been a steep increase in the rise of coronavirus cases in the Lahaul-Spiti region.
Also, a police check post has been set up at Sissu to stop outsiders from entering the valley and it has been told that tourists should stop entering Atal Tunnel as well.
Speaking to a leading newspaper, Deputy Commissioner Lahaul-Spiti, Pankaj Rai said that the Sub-Zero temperature, lack of medical facilities, high-altitude, and various other factors may create severe damage if Corona cases go unchecked. And moreover, changes in the lifestyle of people and severe climatic conditions of the valleys may make the tourists and residents vulnerable to the virus.
It has been said that the authorities in Keylong have also banned public gatherings of more than four people and Section 144 has been imposed. The government of Himachal Pradesh has also said that night curfew will be imposed in Shimla, Lahaul-Spiti, Kullu, and Mandi.
This means that homestays, tourist accommodations, and many other places of stay at Spiti will remain shut for the rest of the year, however, recently many hotels, bars, and restaurants have begun operation considering it’s a peak holiday season in Himachal Pradesh.
