You all know that I was in Kolkata last month; I had a great time over there. I wanted to share my experience at Bodega Cantina-Y-Bar. It’s a refreshing addition to the F&B trend to Kolkata. It is located in the middle of Park Street, Bodega Cantina Y Bar, serves global cuisine, innovative cocktails and delicious desserts in a fun and classy space. The first venture of A&U Hospitality, Bodega is inspired by the travels of Akashh Jaiswal and Urvika Kanoi.
Bodega Cantina Y Bar is flooded with natural light, and this two-story space boasts a DJ console, community tables, chic decor, delicious food, an interactive bar, global desserts and much much more. It’s an excellent venue for brunches, extended lunches, group dinners as well as parties! There’s something at Bodega for everyone. With a comprehensive menu, incredibly quirky interiors and even free-wifi, it’s sure to be a go-to place for all Kolkatans, particularly as it is not only affordable but also very interesting!
It’s a vast space that seats at least a 100 people but is shrewdly broken into split levels, including counter seating along the bar with a handful of high tables downstairs where the nightlife action is, and banquet room on the first floor. The dining room wears a lived-in look, a cozy alcove with quirky handpicked art deco pieces, impressive wooden tables on gurney et al.
If you aim to wander across Asia on a food trail is on the cards, you can drop in at Bodega Cantina Bar, as ‘Bodega Goes East’ with their newly introduced Asian menu. With the elaborate menu, that is available until September 24, and Bodega Cantina Y Bar has tried to include flavors from every region.
The menu-list highlights cocktails, salads, soups, dim sums, baos, appetizers, mains, and desserts. All of which will take your taste bud on a trip through China, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Korea and Japan.
The colorful Absolut-based cocktails have been named after cities. Kyoto (coriander, yuzu, and citrus), Chiang Mai (fresh coconut, lime, and mint seltzer), Beijing (lemongrass, Chinese chili pepper, and lemongrass), Hanoi (grape fruit, sweet lime, basil) and Langkawi (cranberry, apple, and nouc mou).
Touted as a Spanish Food place, Bodega maintains it. Cocktail enthusiasts will go crazy here with the presentation of the drinks. The Raspberry Sorbet was a fantasy, and the chocolate mousse was creamy and light and utterly delightful.
The other favorites from the ‘Bodega Goes East’ menu include(though i am a vegetarian, these are the top favorites by patrons):
Pork Baozee: The pork used in these fluffy buns has been cooked for 24 hours, mixed with secret spices. Not to be missed!
Chicken & Chives Dimsum: Dimsums pepped with cilantro roots and Chinese five-spice (star anise, clove, Sichuan peppercorn, cinnamon, and chili)
Gong XI Prawn Nest: Prawns served on bed fried vermicelli, resembling a nest. Definitely Insta-worthy!
Slow Cooked Mutton Rendang: This succulent mutton has been cooked with Malay spices for over 6 hours, and are served with roti jala (net-like rotis that are yellow)
Beef Bulgogi: You can’t afford to miss the meat at Bodega. Lemongrass-infused sticky rice complements the tenderloin cooked with Gochujang.
Chocolate Lah: Oozy chocolate cake, bruleed Mandarin and vanilla ice cream, this will make you drool.
Overall it was a great experience, and I enjoyed a lot. The service was swift. I will be back to try their cocktails!
