International Film Festival of India 2017 to Begin Today

The mega film festival has begun! Amidst much controversy, the 48th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) begin in Goa’s Panaji, where around 200 films from over 80 countries will be screened. This nine-day extravaganza’s inaugurated by superstar Shah Rukh Khan, in the presence of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Minister Smriti Irani and Goa CM Manohar Parrikar.

Beyond the clouds,’ which was entirely made in India, by a legendary Iranian filmmaker, Majid Majidi opened the fest, while the Indo-Argentine film ‘Thinking of Him’ by Pablo Cesar will wind-up the event. Around 26 feature films and 16 non-feature films, belonging to different languages, regions and cultures, will be screened in the Indian Panorama Section of the festival.

What to Expect at 48th International Film Festival of India (IFFI)?

Sridevi, who was recently seen in MOM and who has ruled our hearts for years is all set to inaugurate the Indian Panorama Section at the 48th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), in Goa. The veteran actor, who has contributed to Hindi cinema for the last fifty years, will be a part of celebrating the theme ‘Future of Indian Cinema’ at the much-awaited film festival.The inaugural ceremony is scheduled for November 21 and Sridevi will be introducing the audience to IFFI’s official selection of feature and non-feature films under the Indian Panorama 2017 category. The same day will also see the IFFI 2017 Country Focus on Canada being celebrated with a grand red carpet opening and amidst the presence of noted Canadian actors and celebrities. The Country focus Canada that has been organized in association with the government of Canada with the collaboration of Telefilm Canada, curated by the Toronto International Film Festival.Sridevi will also be paying a special audio-visual homage to the legends of Indian cinema. Talking about the festival Sridevi said, “I look forward to attending IFFI this year. As IFFI gets into its 48th year, I look forward to celebrating Indian and world cinema, with some of the best talent from across the world”.

Vinod Kapri directed Hindi film ‘Pihu’ will be the opening movie in the feature film category, while ‘Pushkar Puran’ by Kamal Swaroop will open the non-feature film category of the Indian Panorama. IFFI will also screen two movies, ‘Hindi Medium’ and ‘Secret Superstar’ for the visually impaired persons with special audio described the technology.Seven award-winning films from BRICS countries will also be screened at the festival. To ensure greater participation of the local audience, the IFFI will have a Bioscope Village where non-delegates can watch the movies. The International Competition section of IFFI 2017, which carries a cumulative cash prize of over Rs. 1 Crore will showcase 15 of the finest films of this year, competing for the Golden and Silver Peacock awards.The 2017 edition of the Festival will also host a Mixed Reality Sidebar featuring Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality activities in addition to a series of Master Classes. Panel Discussions featuring the who’s who of the entertainment industry, including noted filmmakers Atom Egoyam, Shekhar Kapur, Nitesh Tiwari and Farah Khan, as well as Oscar-winning sound designer Craig Mann.Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan will be honoured with ‘Personality of The Year’ award at the festival. Canada is the focus country this year and will be presenting a package of its eight best recent films. Acclaimed Canadian filmmaker Atom Egoyan will be honoured with a ‘Lifetime Achievement Award.’

The 48th edition of IFFI will take place from November 20-28, 2017 in the beach state of India,Goa.
