One of the latest countries that are now open to fully vaccinated travellers in Laos. The government will continue with its tourist programme in the year 2022 to invite foreign travellers to visit the country.
Those who are fully vaccinated against coronavirus will be allowed to enter the country.
The government is hoping around 1 million overseas travellers under the programme Lao Thiao Lao or Lao visit Laos in the year 2022. The information was provided by Sonexay Siphandone who is the country’s deputy prime minister.
The minister further added that there might be a 1.8 times increase in the restaurant and hotel sector if the programme kicks off well. The travel initiative was introduced in the year 2020 for domestic travellers to explore the country.
In 2021 when the world was hit by a coronavirus, most of the hotels, restaurants, tour companies were shut and additionally, the Lao New Year festival was either cancelled or postponed. Hai Hin (Plain of Jars) and the National Games in northern Laos’ Xieng Khuang province also had to suffer.
With travel restrictions, no foreign travellers were allowed to enter the country. But now, as the borders are opening up, there are plans to revive tourism in the country for domestic travellers and later onwards, the borders will open for overseas tourists.
