Day 2 of our Egypt tour began early where we had an itinerary to visit the famed Pyramids of Giza, Memphis and Sakkara and explore the capital city of Cairo. Hence, got up early and headed off to the first leg of the day which is visiting the Pyramids of Giza.
When you come to Egypt you will not miss visiting the Pyramids of Giza, one of the 7 wonders of the world, Pyramids of Giza is said to have completed in circa 2560 BC where the pyramids stand over 147 meters tall. It took 20 years to build the Pyramids and it is said to be the tallest man-made structure for over 3500+ years.
The fact that Pyramids were built with aligning of stars baffled me as what an architectural marvel these pyramids are and how the construction was done with utmost precision. We visited all the Pyramids including the pyramid of Cheops or Greater Pyramid also called a Pyramid of Khufu which is said to have aligned with the constellation of Orion. As the location of the Pyramids is widely spread, we took some time to explore and get to know more about the giant structures and history of Pyramids and we later went to Solar Boat Museum.
The Giza Solar Boat Museum is located just behind the Pyramids of Giza. This is an accidental find by the team who were in charge to clean area of Pyramids of Giza. The solar boat museum is said to have been constructed next to the Great Pyramid and is equipped with modern techniques to preserve the solar boat. It contains, reassembled Khufu boat, a maquette Khufu solar ship and photos when the discovery was made by the team.
After the exploration of Pyramids, we headed out to the cities of Memphis and Sakkara. The cities of Memphis and Sakkara lies 16 km from the capital and is famous for the remains and ruins of the temple. We explored the cities of Memphis and Sakkara and headed back to Cairo where we explored the old Cairo or Coptic Cairo as it is called the Coptic museum present there, hanging church and some parts of Khan el-Khalil etc and headed off to our hotel to rejuvenate for next leg of our journey.
