Cayenne & Macan off-road capabilities in Bangalore

Porsche India organised ‘Grand Test Drive’ for selected customers and media in Bangalore last Saturday to give a first-hand experience of its superior real, SUV’s best-in-class off-roading capabilities. Which took place at the WRAC Wonder Valley, Shanbhoganahalli village, Bangalore, the experience featured a range of scenarios that replicated conditions in which an SUV is required to leave tarmacked roads.

Porsche as a brand is known for their performance oriented cars, notably when one talks about tarmac or the track. It is the off-roading capabilities of the SUV. The primary objective of the drive was to give customers a taste of the thrill of off-roading and at the same time showcase the Cayenne’s and Macan’s off-road specific assistance systems, features and capabilities.

Events like this do help reignite the love for the Car!

Speaking at the event, Pavan Shetty, Director of Porsche India, said: “The on-road and track dominance of Porsche models is well known. With this special event, our aim is to draw attention to the extended capabilities of the brand’s SUV models. The Cayenne and Macan spread Porsche performance off-road and as expected deliver outstanding results. Although drivers may not always encounter tough terrain on their daily commute, we want to highlight a range of features and assistance systems that provide driveability and safety alongside the smooth performance our enthusiasts you have come to expect of a Porsche.”

Ultimate Experience!

During the event, we were granted to endure Porsche technology specifically designed to handle rough terrains. The Macan, with its all-wheel drive system, has a button located in the centre console, which sets the compact-SUV to ‘off-road mode.’ Available as standard in all Macan, this setting switches all compatible systems to a traction-optimized program. Combined with the optional air suspension and Porsche Active Stability Management (PASM), the vehicle is automatically adjusted cope with the terrain. This feature was specifically tested during the gravel traps section of the off-road course.

Note: Porsche Cayenne, an SUV that costs over Rs 1 crore, has 295 horses under the hood! I was thrilled to drive it! Hopefully will own this beauty and the beast someday! 🙂

I loved Porsche 718 Boxster! It’s a 2-litre engine produces 298 bhp and 380Nm of torque, and this translates into exemplary performance. 0 to 100 kph is dealt in just 4.7 seconds while top speed is rated at 275 kph. Both cars come with a seven-speed automatic PDK gearbox.

With the course also featuring simulated hill descents, we were able to activate the Porsche Hill Control (PHC) in both models. This system keeps the speed of the car constant on downhill gradients, limiting it between 3 to 30 km/h, by braking on all four wheels, while the Antilock Brake System (ABS) remains active to prevent them from locking.

During the slush drive section of the track, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV) in combination with the Porsche Traction Management (PTM) and Porsche Stability Management (PSM) systems, provided improved traction in the Cayenne and Macan. Thanks to the rear-axle differential lock, the PTV Plus system makes a positive impact by reducing rear wheel-spin through targeted locking and braking interventions.

The Porsche Cayenne and Macan outlined the benchmark for four-door sports cars in their respective segments while offering a lot of fun and safety when taken off-road as well. Both Porsche Cars are unique, has a great interior, exterior styling and dominant road presence with extra comfort and flexibility. It was comfortable, safe, reliable and robust SUV. This event gave an opportunity to Porsche lovers in Bangalore to realise the off-road prowess of the vehicle.
