Cable Car journey at Jammu is finally launched after 25 years

One of the popular ways to explore the snow-capped mountains is via Cable Car. Some of the famous ski places and snow-capped mountains look breath-taking while you explore the same via cable car. And do not worry, if you can’t go to Swiss Alps to enjoy a cable car ride as, after 25 years, cable car journey has been launched in the winter capital of Jammu.

On July 27, Lieutenant-governor of the UT of Jammu and Kashmir, GC Murmu and his wife Smita Murmu inaugurated the much-awaited Jammu ropeway project to promote tourism. The plan to introduce a cable car over the snow-filled mountains go as early as 1995. However, due to several conflicts, reasons the date of completion was getting postponed and recently the government launched the project and took the first ropeway ride along with other top officials.

The 1.66km long cable car route is developed in 2 phases he first phase is from Bahu Fort to Mahamaya Park. The second one is from Mahamaya to Peer Kho over the Tawi river. The two routes have eights cabins and fourteen cabins respectively.

The test run for these cable cars was done in April last year and it was successful. This will usher development to the valleys and also get jobs for the locals.

“It was following a personal intervention by the L-G that the project has been thrown open to the general public and tourists today. The L-G had directed us to complete the work and make it operational.” Said Mr Murmu to a leading news channel. He also said that it will be the biggest tourist attraction place so next time you are in Jammu, do not miss to board the cable car and witness the breathtaking panoramic view of the snowy city.
