To contain a demand that has been arising with travel, specifically with air travel Bengaluru might get the second airport. According to the Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BCIC), there has been a proposal for a new airport that has been in discussion with the state government. This is taking into an account of future economic growth patterns, demand potential and demographic divide.
Bengaluru is home to Kempegowda International Airport and this new airport will enhance connectivity to Mysuru, Kodagu, Hassan, Harohalli. The new airport is proposed as Kempegowda Airport will struggle to accommodate the increased aviation demand by 2030. With the new airport, it will not only decongest the traffic but also increase economic growth and jobs.
The BCIC has requested the state government to look after the long acquisition, development, road connectivity and environmental issues and the Bengaluru-Mysuru corridor has been picked for the project as it has good road and rail infrastructure.
As per the reports, Ramanagaram and Channapatna would possibly be picked as airport locations.
The BCIC said that the state-local travel times are high thus affecting productivity and output. Bengaluru has been reputed to have some of the worst traffic in the country. The new airport will not only ease the present traffic and if the state has a single airport the traffic volume will be on the rise until the second airport is established.
