Assam to lift covid-19 restrictions from November 01

To help the tourism sector in the state of Assam, Covid-19 restrictions will be removed from November 01. The same has been communicated by the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma where they will start lifting restrictions as the covid situation has considerably improved in the state.

While addressing an event on the occasion of World Tourism Day, the CM has also announced a relief package worth INR 2 Lakh to over 142 tour operators and INR 25000 for 605 guides thus helping them to recover losses caused by the pandemic. 

The Chief Minister further added that the state government is continually working towards lifting all the covid-19 restrictions and making sure that a maximum number of people are vaccinated by the time state open up its borders. The CM is also hopeful that the tourism industry will boom in the coming days.

To boost tourism, CM also said that there is a need to promote the offbeat destination for outside visitors and asked stakeholders not to keep the tourism circuit to some of the known places such as Kaziranga National Park etc. The state’s handloom, food, tribal culture, handicraft, and natural beauty must also be explored by travellers, he added.

The CM also urged tour operators to aggressively promote places in Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao, Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and other parts of the state. And during this conference, he also appreciated the Indian Railways initiative to start Vistadome services from Guwahati to Dima Haso thus helping to promote this region in the tourism circuit.
