The lush green hills of Kemmangundi are elevated at the height of 4500 feet above the sea level. In the past times, this place served as the summer palace of Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV. He was tranquilized by the arresting beauty of Kemmangundi and decided to make this place as his summer capital. Today, this site is recognized as a trekking and camping site. 6) Sharadamba Temple and Sringeri Sharada Peetha: The Sharadamba Temple is located in Shringeri which is a town in Chikmagalur district. Adi Shankaracharya, the great Hindu practitioner, set up his practice at this place. Established on the banks of the Tungabhadra River, the Sharadamba Temple chronicles back to as early as the 8th century. The temple is devoted to the goddess of wisdom. Praying to the goddess is said to increase one’s learning capacity. The young and the old visit this temple to offer their prayers.

8) Kalhatti Falls: Located some kilometers away from Hebbe Falls, Kalhatti Falls is another not to-be missed a place in Chikmagalur. It is a sacred site for the local people, the legends and folklores claim that saint Agastya did penance in front of Lord Shiva. Impressed by his penance, the Lord appeared in front of him, and the saint beseeched him to reside near the waterfall. Since then, a jet-black shiva-linga is worshiped in the small shrine located close to Kalhatti Falls.

9) Kudremukh National Park and Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary: Deriving its name from the Kudremukh peak, Kudremukh National Park is a major attraction in Chikmagalur. It is a delightful national park beckoned by the hills of Kudremukh range. It boasts a variety of flora, fauna, and the avifauna. You can easily spot animals like lion-tailed macaque, panther, bison, barking deer, hawk, falcon, peacock, and owl in the vicinity of this national park.
